We deliver robust claim management to ensure you and your business are compensated for your expenditure and costs incurred.

We manage the claim process from start to finish and take care of all the heavy lifting. We will work directly with you, your internal team and external advisors to collect the information we need to produce a watertight claim which is supported by a detailed reports.

What’s more, you will have full & real-time visibility of your claim progress via our online customer portal.

1. Complete Onboarding

Upon signing your letter of engagement you’ll receive a registration form —please complete it to help us with our compliance checks. This step is essential for getting your claim underway.

2. Qualifying Call

Before we move forward with the claim, we’ll need to schedule a qualifying call. In this call, we will review your accounts and help identify any qualifying projects you may have. This ensures that we only proceed with the projects that meet the necessary criteria for R&D claims.

3. Technical & Cost Call

Once the projects have been qualified, we’ll schedule a technical and cost call to go over the technical details and the costs associated with the qualifying projects. In some cases, the technical and cost discussions can be covered in one meeting. However, if needed, these discussions can be spread across two separate meetings, depending on your preference. Just let your analyst know how you’d like to proceed!

4. Claim Calculation & Tax Docs

After the technical and cost discussions, our Tax Team will calculate the value of your claim and prepare the necessary tax documents, including any amendments to be filed with HMRC.

5. Claim Submission

You’ll receive the final tax documents for signing. Once signed, we’ll submit everything to HMRC along with your technical report to complete your claim.

6. Payment

You will receive payment or a tax reduction from HMRC

What Qualifies as R&D?

Key Components

1. Innovation

The project must seek to make an advance in science or technology. This could be an advancement in knowledge, techniques, or processes. 

Examples: 

    • Developing a new product or software that didn’t exist before or improving an existing one with advanced features. 
    • Introducing a new process to improve efficiency or solve a significant operational issue. 
    2. Scientific or Technological Uncertainty

    There should be technical or scientific uncertainty that cannot be easily solved using existing knowledge, practices, or technologies. 

    Examples: 

      • Experimenting with new materials, techniques, or designs that have not yet been proven. 
      • Developing a new product where the outcome of certain technical or design aspects is uncertain. 
      3. Systematic Work

      The project must be carried out through a structured process of research and development, involving testing, trial and error, and analysis to resolve uncertainties. 

      Examples: 

        • An iterative approach to solving a problem, including testing and refinement.
        • Documenting hypotheses and testing theories. 
        4. Seeking Technological or Scientific Advancement

        The project should aim to resolve technical challenges or improve the state of the art in the field. 

        Examples: 

          • Developing a new manufacturing process to improve speed, efficiency, or sustainability. 
          • Innovating in data analysis tools to create more advanced algorithms. 
          5. Projects Must Involve Experimentation and Trial

          R&D projects often require a process of experimentation to test ideas, assess risks, and ultimately find solutions. 

          Examples: 

          • Experimenting with new designs, materials, or processes to achieve better outcomes. 
          • Simulating different scenarios or testing various methodologies. 
            6. Technical or Scientific Knowledge

            Projects should require specialized knowledge to overcome the challenges, and the people involved need to have technical expertise in the area. 

            Examples: 

              • Software developers working on artificial intelligence or machine learning. 
              • Engineers working on new mechanical components or innovative electrical systems.
